The Mumbai Cricket Association becomes the first state cricketing body to introduce domestic contracts for its players.
This move comes as a measure to ensure financial security and stability for players who are part of the system but have yet to achieve higher honours like IPL Participation or the National Team cap. As reported by Cricbuzz, this measure applies to both men’s and women’s players.
"The system is designed to support players who are on the cusp of higher honours, ensuring stability and motivation to perform consistently at the domestic level," the MCA said in a release.
The current structure proposed divides the players into three brackets - Grade A, Grade B and Grade C. Grade A contracts will range from INR 12 lakh to INR 20 lakh per annum, Grade B from INR 8 lakh to INR 12 lakh, while Grade C players will receive INR 8 lakh annually.
In addition to this, contracted players will also be entitled to match fees, daily allowances and performance-based incentives as per MCA policies. The contracts will be awarded to eligible players based on performance, fitness benchmarks and recommendations of the selection committee.
"This initiative marks a new era for Mumbai cricket. We are proud to be the first association to implement a player contract system - a progressive step that will provide greater security, structure, and growth opportunities for our Mumbai players," said Ajinkya Naik, President of the MCA.
