Namibia square off against a young South African side at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek in a one-off T20I clash on Saturday, October 11.
Gerhard Erasmus-led Namibia are coming into this clash on the back of an impressive campaign in the T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final 2025. They secured qualification to next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Namibia defeated Kenya, Nigeria, and Malawi in Group A before blowing away Tanzania in the semi-final. In the summit clash, they lost to Zimbabwe by seven wickets.
Meanwhile, South Africa lost a three-match away T20I series against Australia in August 1-2. In September, they travelled to England to face the Three Lions. The Proteas drew the series 1-1. South Africa have picked a young side for this tour, with Donovan Ferreira set to lead at the international level for the first time.
The Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek is expected to provide a balanced surface, offering a fair contest between bat and ball. Good pace and bounce could be in the offing and new-ball bowlers might also get some movement inside the powerplay.
This is going to be the first meeting between Namibia and South Africa in T20I cricket.
Malan Kruger, Jan Frylinck, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Louren Steenkamp, Gerhard Erasmus (C), JJ Smit, Ruben Trumpelmann, Zane Green (WK), Jan Balt, Bernard Scholtz, Ben Shikongo.
Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Jason Smith, Donovan Ferreira (C), Rubin Hermann, Nqaba Peter, Gerald Coetzee, Nandre Burger, Andile Simelane, Bjorn Fortuin.
Quinton de Kock is all set to play his first international game since the T20 World Cup final last year. The South African batter has been playing in franchise leagues around the world and would be eager to make a mark on his comeback to the national team.
Bjorn Fortuin is a clever operator, who tends to push the ball through with the arm and catches the batters off-guard. The left-arm spinner has played 26 T20Is, picking up 22 wickets. He will have a crucial role to play through the middle overs for the Proteas.
