Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has shut down rumours and fabricated quotes circulating about his personal life, making it clear that he has never carried baggage from the past. The clarification comes shortly after his second marriage to Sophie Shine, at a time when social media was abuzz with misleading claims attributed to him.
Dhawan recently tied the knot with Sophie Shine in a private ceremony, marking a new chapter in his life following his separation from his former wife, Aesha Dhawan, in October 2023. However, the celebration was affected by a viral social media post. The post falsely claimed that Dhawan had said his ex-wife once told him that no one would marry him after she left, and that his remarriage was a fitting reply.
The statement quickly gained traction online, with several accounts sharing and reacting to it. However, Dhawan has denied ever making such remarks, calling out the spread of misinformation and urging people not to associate his name with fabricated narratives. Taking to social media, Dhawan addressed the controversy directly. He expressed disappointment over the false statements being attributed to him and reiterated his belief in positivity.
“I have come across some posts on social media attributing a disappointing statement about my personal life. I have never carried baggage from the past, be it on the pitch or outside. I firmly believe in the power of positivity while respecting my past," wrote Dhawan on his social media accounts.

I strongly urge people not to trade on my name with clickbait, insensitive, and false statements on social media. Let’s spread love and positivity. Thank you!" he added.
Dhawan married Sophie Shine after dating for over a year. The couple had made their relationship public in May 2025 and announced their engagement earlier in January. They were first spotted together during a Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Sophie is an Irish product consultant currently working as Second Vice President. Product Consultant at Northern Trust Corporation, a US-based financial services firm. She holds qualifications in Marketing and Management from the Limerick Institute of Technology and completed her schooling at Castleroy College in Ireland.
