New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have unveiled their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, with veteran all-rounder Sophie Devine named captain for what will be her final ODI assignment. The announcement was made in Auckland on Wednesday (September 10) by former World Cup-winning skipper Emily Drumm. The tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, begins on October 1, with the White Ferns set to face defending champions Australia in their opening clash in Indore.

The squad features four players earning their first World Cup call-ups: Flora Devonshire, Polly Inglis, Bella James, and Bree Illing. All of them have made their international debuts over the past summer and further proved their credentials on the New Zealand ‘A’ tour of England earlier this year.

While the inclusion of new faces provides fresh energy, New Zealand’s strength lies in its experienced core. Devine and Suzie Bates will be playing their fifth World Cup together, a remarkable achievement in itself. Pace spearhead Lea Tahuhu is set for her fourth tournament, while Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green will be heading into their third campaigns.

The selectors opted to leave out Fran Jonas, Lauren Down, Molly Penfold, and Hannah Rowe, all of whom featured during the home season but could not find a place in the final 15.

Ahead of the World Cup opener, the White Ferns will play two warm-up matches in Bengaluru, giving the squad time to acclimatize to subcontinental conditions. With Devine’s retirement looming, the squad will be eager to deliver a memorable campaign for their inspirational leader.
