New Zealand (NZ) and South Africa (SA) are set to lock horns in a blockbuster decider for the fifth T20I of the five-match series between them on Wednesday, March 25, at the Hagley Oval, in Christchurch.
The hosts, New Zealand, will be looking to clinch the series with a win in the final match. They will be led by star all-rounder James Neesham since Mitchell Santner has joined Mumbai Indians for IPL 2026, while Tom Latham has been ruled out for the remainder of the series with an injury.
South Africa, on the other hand, have shown once again why they are called one of the best T20I sides going around. The match promises to be a cracking encounter between two well-rounded teams, as the Keshav Maharaj-led unit keeps an eye on lifting the trophy on Thursday.
The iconic Hagley Oval, Christchurch's pitch, generally favours the batters more. Out of the 17 T20I matches played at the venue, the team chasing the target has come out victorious on 10 occasions, which clearly indicates that the pitch gets better as the game progresses. Bowling first, as a result, is expected to produce a favourable result for the team winning the toss.
Tim Robinson, Katene Clark, Dylan Cleaver (wk), Nick Kelly, Bevon Jacobs, James Neesham (captain), 7 Cole McConchie/Jayden Lennox, Josh Clarkson, Zak Foukes, Kyle Jamieson, Ben Sears
Tony de Zorzi, Wiaan Mulder, Connor Esterhuizen (wk), Rubin Hermann, Dian Forrester, Jason Smith, George Linde, Gerland Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj (capt), Prenelan Subrayen, Ottneil Baartman
The wicketkeeper batter from South Africa has been a consistent performer with the bat throughout the series. The 24-year-old has amassed 124 runs so far in this series with an impressive average of 41.67. He is also coming off after playing a match-winning knock in the fourth match.
The fast-bowling all-rounder from South Africa, Gerald Coetzee has been a standout performer with the ball for his side in this series. In just four matches, he has picked up six wickets at an average of just 16. He also has gone wicketless just once in this series so far.
