New Zealand will look to bag the series after winning the first T20I convincingly on Sunday. The second and final T20I takes place at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Tuesday, March 17.
In the first T20I at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, the home side posted a mammoth 190/7 in their 20 overs on the back of half-centuries from Georgia Plimmer and Amelia Kerr. In reply, South Africa scratched and clawed their way to 110/7 in their 20 overs. Sophie Devine was dismissed cheaply with the bat but contributed with a sensational four-for with the ball.
The White Ferns won the match by 80 runs and have a chance to win the series. On the other hand, South Africa can only level the series with a win on Tuesday.
Seddon Park is expected to be a belter of a track for batting. However, the new ball is going to be key for both sides. If the pacers can make early inroads, it will build a lot of pressure on the batting side. Expect a high-scoring contest on Tuesday.
Isabella Gaze (WK), Georgia Plimmer, Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr (C), Suzie Bates, Brooke Halliday, Maddy Green, Izzy Sharp, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Bree Illing.
Tazmin Brits, Sune Luus, Laura Wolvaardt (C), Annerie Dercksen, Kayla Reyneke, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk, Sinalo Jafta (WK), Ayabonga Khaka, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Masabata Klass.
Amelia Kerr was excellent in the first T20I. She walked out to bat at No. 3 after Isabella Gaze was run-out first ball of the innings. The White Ferns' skipper smashed 78 runs off just 44 balls, belting 11 fours and two sixes. She would want to carry on from where she left off.
Sophie Devine is an experienced campaigner, who knows very well how to bowl in these conditions. In the first T20I, she finished with magnificent figures of 4/12 in four overs. Expect Devine to play a key role once again with the ball.
