NZ vs AUS 2025: Glenn Maxwell fractures arm while bowling in nets, ruled out of series

Star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand after fracturing his bowling arm in the net session. Notably, Maxwell was bowling to Mitchell Owen in the nets on the eve of the match, and a straight drive from the pinch hitter did the damage to Maxwell's right arm, subsequently forcing him to withdraw his name from the series.
For the unversed, Maxwell was sent for scans immediately, which revealed the degree of the injury. With the Melbourne-born senior cricketer ruled out, Australia had to call in for the services of wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe for the entire series, which begins on October 1 with the opening fixture at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
“I saw it out of the corner of my eye. We're training under a marquee, so it's really echo-y and loud. I saw (Owen) smoked it and then the aftermath, it hit Maxi on the wrist. It didn't sound good,” Short was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
“(Owen) is not the guy you want to be bowling to in T20 training, that's for sure. Maxi's been there and gone through that (serious injuries) a couple of times now, he was a bit disappointed, but it's just like any other injury. I'm sure he'll get through it,” he added.
Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Matt Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa
