The three-match One Day International (ODI) series between New Zealand and England is set to commence on Sunday, October 26, 2025, following a T20 International series that was significantly affected by rain and won 1-0 by England. The 50-over contests promise a shift in focus and a more balanced rivalry, given that the head-to-head ODI record is deadlocked, with both teams claiming 45 victories apiece in their history.

The series will begin at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on October 26, before moving to Seddon Park in Hamilton on October 29, and concluding at the Sky Stadium in Wellington on November 1.

For New Zealand, this series marks a significant moment with the return of several key, experienced players. Most notably, star batsman Kane Williamson is back in the squad after recovering from an unspecified minor medical issue, bringing his world-class skill and leadership to the middle order. He is joined by wicketkeeper Tom Latham, who also returns to the fold, and captain Mitchell Santner, who has recovered from recent abdominal surgery.

All-rounder Nathan Smith is also back from injury. Despite these significant inclusions, the Blackcaps will be without several other players due to persistent injury issues, including Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, and Glenn Phillips, creating opportunities for players like Zak Foulkes and Jacob Duffy to make an impact.

England, captained by Harry Brook in the white-ball formats, will also see changes from their T20I squad. The arrival of experienced Test players Joe Root and Ben Duckett, alongside fast bowler Jofra Archer and wicketkeeper Jamie Smith, provides a significant boost.

However, in the opening ODI, Archer will not be seen as England manage his Ashes preparations. This is confirmed that Archer is not injured and he will be available for the second ODI. Conversely, opening batsman Phil Salt and Zak Crawley will not feature in the ODIs. England’s line-up is a blend of World Cup winners and next-generation talent, all aiming to stake their claim in the new cycle of the format.
