‘Only the selectors can answer’ - Bhuvneshwar Kumar opens up on Indian team snub

Out of favour India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has spoken about his prolonged absence from the national side, with his last appearance coming in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England in Adelaide, a match India lost by ten wickets and were also knocked out of the competition.
The 35-year-old indicated that a potential return to the Indian team does not rest in his control, pointing out that selection matters are decided by the selectors. He noted that his own focus remains on delivering consistent performances in domestic cricket, while acknowledging that the final decision on his comeback lies with the selection committee.
"Aapko iska uttar chayanakarta denge (Only the selectors can answer that). My job is to give 100 percent on the field, and I'm doing that. If I get a chance to play for Uttar Pradesh in the Mushtaq Ali, Ranji, or One-Day formats after the UP league, I will give my best there too," said Bhuvneshwar to Dainik Jagran.
The Meerut-born also makes a subtle remark regarding the selection process, noting that luck does not favour everyone. With Rajeev Shukla currently serving as the interim head of the BCCI, the veteran pacer is hopeful of finding a way back into the squad.
"As a disciplined bowler, my focus remains on fitness and line-length. No matter how well you perform, sometimes luck doesn't favour you. Your performance is paramount. If someone plays good cricket consistently, they cannot be ignored for long. Even if you're not selected, focus on giving your 100 percent. The rest is up to the selectors. Yes, with Rajeev Shukla as president, it will be difficult to overlook talent," said Bhvuneshwar.
The veteran pacer played a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL title earlier this year, taking 17 wickets in 14 matches. In the previous season, he represented Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he picked up 15 wickets, before being released ahead of the mega auction. Over the course of his IPL career, Bhuvneshwar has featured in 190 matches and claimed 198 wickets and is among the highest wicket-takers in the IPL history.
