Pakistan charged with heavy penalty in India loss following Women's T20 World Cup clash

Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against India in their Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup played at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday.

Trudy Anderson of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Pakistani side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

On-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacquline Williams, third umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth umpire Sue Redfern levelled the charge.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

Asked about the feelings of the loss, the Women in Green skipper was visibly disappointed after the loss in the campaign opener for her side in the mega global T20 event.

"The batting side was very disappointing. We need to step up as we have a long way to go. [171 target] We were good till the last few overs, but we got sloppy. The one extra fielder coming in also affected us. It might be because of lefty-right combination. It is a young side and they will learn," she said at the post-match presentation as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

"[Catching] Catches win matches but unfortunately, and the senior players dropped catches. We need to improve in bowling and catching. We will try and execute our plans as soon as possible. [Intent in powerplay] Our powerplay, we won with bat and ball. But we collapsed with the bat and we need to improve there," she concluded.
