Pakistan Cricket Board and Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation join hands to build international cricket stadium in Jeddah

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation (SACF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop an international-standard cricket stadium in Jeddah, marking a significant step in Saudi Arabia's growing ambitions to establish itself as a cricketing nation.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday, July 01, by SACF Chairman Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Mohammad Al Saud and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan's Interior Minister. Naqvi is currently in Riyadh for high-level meetings with Saudi Arabian officials focused on security, counter-narcotics, and institutional cooperation.

According to the joint statement released by both cricket boards, the partnership will focus on developing world-class cricket infrastructure through collaboration in venue planning, technical expertise, operational standards, and facility development. The proposed stadium is expected to meet international cricketing requirements and strengthen Saudi Arabia's ability to host global cricket events in the future.

The project will also include the development of integrated infrastructure such as international-quality playing surfaces, broadcast and media facilities, hospitality zones, training centres, and enhanced spectator services to provide a complete experience for players, officials, fans, and commercial partners.

Speaking about the landmark collaboration, Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Mohammad Al Saud emphasized the project's long-term vision.

"Today’s partnership is not only about developing an international cricket stadium in Jeddah; it is about building a long-term future for cricket in Saudi Arabia through shared ambition, trusted partnerships and sustainable investment," he was quoted as saying by Arab News.

Beyond the construction of the stadium, the MoU also outlines cooperation in cricket development programs, technical exchanges, and the organization of competitions aimed at accelerating the sport's growth in Saudi Arabia.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence that the collaboration would benefit both cricketing nations.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board is honored to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s exciting cricket journey. Together, we are creating a partnership that will strengthen the game, connect our cricketing communities and leave a lasting legacy,” said Naqvi.

Cricket has witnessed steady growth in Saudi Arabia since the formation of the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation in 2020. Over the past few years, the federation has launched several grassroots and high-performance initiatives to increase the sport's popularity and prepare its national teams to compete at the international level.
