Pakistan’s cricketing flair is set to light up Hong Kong as Abbas Afridi has been named captain for the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes 2025, a fast-paced tournament celebrated for its explosive action and thrilling finishes.

The event will take place at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground from November 7 to 9, with the national side departing for Hong Kong on November 5.

The 12 participating teams have been divided into four groups of three, with Pakistan placed in Pool C alongside India and Kuwait. They will open their campaign on Friday, November 7, aiming to make a strong statement in the group stages.

Designed for aggressive cricket, the format features shortened matches, rapid scoring, and high entertainment value. Each team will play two group matches before progressing to the knockout stage, with a total of 10 fixtures in the group phase.

Pakistan are tied for the most titles in the event’s history, having won the trophy five times and finished as runners-up on six occasions. Their squad combines youthful energy and proven performers, featuring Khawaja Mohammad Nafay, Abdul Samad, and Mohammad Shahzad alongside Afridi’s leadership.

Earlier, Cricket South Africa announced their squad for the competition. The Proteas have also claimed the title five times, in 1995, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2017.

Meanwhile, India will be led by Dinesh Karthik, with R Ashwin also part of the squad, adding star power to an already electric lineup. The team has yet to announce their squad for the marquee event.
