Pakistan players to fly to United States to fine-tune hitting skills
Head coach Mike Hesson has confirmed that a bunch of Pakistan players will be flying to the United States of America. These cricketers will be spending nearly four months on American soil to sharpen their power-hitting skills, with the growing concerns regarding the sluggish batting of the side even in modern-day T20 cricket.
Head coach Mike Hesson has confirmed that these cricketers will be tasked with training in a different environment, ensuring a complete rehauling of the Pakistani side with regard to fitness and longevity. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been laying extra emphasis on the fitness of players of late, with them calling it a non-negotiable phenomenon in today's day and age.
"We're sending some players to the US. There's some power-hitting expertise over there, and we're exploring some options. We've got some players who've had some longer-term injuries and players we want to expose to different methods of power hitting and just a different learning environment, spending four months in one place to get some new fresh ideas," he told Cricinfo.
Hesson has also confirmed that the PCB will be working in tandem alongside Dr Javed Mughal who was recently appointed as the Director of Sports and Exercise Medicine at the board. Mughal will be presiding over the updates regarding the players and their assessment over the course of their stay in America.
"There's a bit of a collaboration. It's certainly not just strength and conditioning. We've got Javed Mughal who's come in here and changing the way players are training and assessing them in a different way. So he needs time to plan it out as well," the head coach added further.
With key tournaments like the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship Final in 2027 on the horizon, it will be extremely intriguing to see whether the decision to send players to the United States brings any fruitful outcome for Pakistan cricket.
