Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match No. 61 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Sunday, May 17, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
The Kings come into this clash on the back of five successive losses after starting the season unbeaten in seven games. This is their third home game in Dharamshala, with them losing both the matches against DC and MI respectively. With 13 points in 12 games, they need to win this game to solidify their chances of qualifying for the playoffs, and a possible top-2 finish.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru come into this clash after a dominating win over their arch-rivals Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur. They currently are the table toppers with 16 points to their name. With a win against RBKS, the defending champions will officially secure their playoffs spot.
The HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, apart from its picturesque presence, has historically been one of the best batting venues in the country. The venue has hosted two matches so far in IPL 2026, and in all four innings, the teams have managed to cross the 200-run mark, which indicates the batting-friendly nature of the pitch. Whoever wins the toss will prefer to chase down the target. But with the match being played in the afternoon, there is a chance of spinners coming into play.
The Shreyas Iyer-led side is coming off five consecutive losses before this encounter and is in dire need of a reversal of fortune if they are to make the playoffs. The defending champions, on the other hand, have been brilliant in IPL 2026 so far and will be looking to qualify for the playoffs and finish in the top-2 with victories in their remaining games.
PBKS are struggling to defend the totals in IPL 2026 so far despite scoring 200+ totals regularly with the bat. Hence, their bowlers have to step-up in this crucial encounter for them.
