Peshawar Zalmi (PES) square off against Hyderabad Kingsmen (HYK) in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, May 3.
Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi has been the team to beat in PSL 2026. In the round-robin stage, they won eight out of their 10 games and lost just one. They had one game washed out. They finished at the top of the standings and defeated Islamabad United by 70 runs in Karachi in the Qualifier to make it to the final.
Hyderabad Kingsmen have made it to the final in their maiden PSL appearance. They started with four consecutive defeats but turned things around commendably to win seven out of their last eight matches. After finishing fourth on the points table after the league phase, they defeated Multan Sultans in Eliminator 1 and Islamabad United in Eliminator 2.
These two teams faced each other earlier in the season at the National Stadium in Karachi. Peshawar won the match by four wickets, chasing down a 146-run target off the last ball.
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has been excellent for batters, as runs have come aplenty on the pitches that have been used. In the last five matches played at this venue in PSL 2026, the average first-innings total is around 188. The captain who wins the toss would want to bowl first. Any target less than 180 should be easily chased down.
Mohammad Haris (WK), Babar Azam (C), Kusal Mendis (WK), Farhan Yousaf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Michael Bracewell, Aaron Hardie, Abdul Samad, Khurram Shahzad, Sufiyan Muqeem, Mohammad Basit.
Maaz Sadaqat, Saim Ayub, Marnus Labuschagne, Usman Khan (WK), Kusal Perera, Glenn Maxwell, Hassan Khan, Irfan Khan, Hunain Shah, Mohammad Ali, Akif Javed.
Babar Azam has led his team from the front. The former Pakistan skipper is the leading run-getter in the tournament, having amassed 588 runs in 10 innings at an average of 84 and a strike rate of 146.27. Hyderabad Kingsmen will look to get his wicket early on Sunday.
Sufiyan Muqeem has been the standout bowler in PSL 2026. He is at the top of the list of leading wicket-takers. In 10 matches, he has picked up 21 wickets at an average of 14 and an economy rate of 7.35. The Kingsmen will have to be wary of his four-over spell.
