Ranji Trophy 2026-27: Tamil Nadu name 30-member probables squad with Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association named a 30-member probables squad for the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season on August 25, 2026. India internationals Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar are both included in the list, signalling that the association is planning around their potential availability during the domestic campaign.
Tamil Nadu have been placed in Elite Group D for the 2026-27 edition. The tournament is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with Tamil Nadu's opening fixture against Rajasthan set for October 11 to 14, 2026.
On the same day, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association also announced a separate 25-member probables squad for the C K Nayudu Trophy 2026-27 season, covering the association's age-group planning alongside the senior domestic programme.
Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar are both active members of the India setup, which means their participation in any Ranji Trophy fixture will depend on the national team's schedule at that point in the season. Their presence in the probables list confirms that Tamil Nadu's selectors are accounting for them when building the squad pool, rather than treating them as unavailable from the outset.
When India players do appear in Ranji Trophy matches, they add considerable quality to their state sides. A 30-member probables list gives Tamil Nadu's team management the flexibility to rotate and manage availability across a long domestic season without being caught short if international commitments reduce the pool at short notice.
Tamil Nadu's placement in Elite Group D means they will face a set of state sides across multiple rounds before the knockout stages. Their first assignment is the fixture against Rajasthan from October 11 to 14, 2026, which gives the squad a concrete early deadline to prepare for following this probables' announcement.
A pool of 30 players allows the team management to select a travelling squad and playing XI for each fixture based on form, fitness and international availability. With the season beginning in October 2026, Tamil Nadu's preparation is now formally underway.
