The emotional dam finally broke right after Sri Lanka A hit the winning runs. Frustrations boiled over for India A’s teenage opener, Suryavanshi, who had managed five runs off the two balls he faced in the shootout. Walking off the field amidst a sea of celebrating Sri Lankan players, television footage caught a visibly angry Suryavanshi making physical contact with an opposing player before being shoved away by others. Angry words were fiercely exchanged before the talented youngster, who is on the cusp of making his senior India debut on the upcoming T20I tour of Ireland, was ushered away.

Rather than strictly penalizing the young Indian side for losing their cool, Ashwin validated their human reaction while acknowledging Sri Lanka’s clever gamesmanship.

“The frustration shown by the Indian team was understandable, while what Sri Lanka did was play proper mind games. Great theatre,” he added, noting that India A simply failed to hold their nerve under intense psychological pressure.

Ultimately, the ugly post-match scenes completely overshadowed a spectacular cricketing fightback. India A had originally recovered from a dismal 143 for seven, courtesy of a brilliant 104-run partnership between Suyansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam. Ironically, a costly ten-run discipline penalty building up to that partnership proved to be the mathematical difference that forced the tie in the first place, allowing Sri Lanka A to capitalize, secure the win, and claim the top spot on the points table.
