Ravindra Jadeja to feature for Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy clash against Madhya Pradesh

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is not part of the ongoing ODI series against Australia, will turn up for Saurashtra in their second-round Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, starting Saturday, October 25. The 36-year-old was dropped from the three-match ODI series but remains a key figure in Test set-up, showing some serious form with the ball and bat.
Since the 2023-24 season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it mandatory for players to represent their state sides in domestic cricket whenever they are fit and available, provided they are not on national or India A duty. Jadeja, known for his professionalism and commitment, has consistently played for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy whenever possible.
“He informed us that he will play for Saurashtra in this round of the Ranji Trophy. He has always been keen to play for Saurashtra whenever he is available,” Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jaydev Shah told The Times of India.
Last season, the left-arm spinner claimed 12 wickets in two Ranji matches, including a staggering outing of 7 for 38. Overall, Jadeja has been a stellar performer in first-class cricket, taking 569 wickets at an average of 24.20 and scoring 8,143 runs at an impressive 45.49 average, with 14 centuries, including two triple hundreds, a rare feat for an all-rounder.
In their opening game of the season, Saurashtra secured a slender first-innings lead over Karnataka, thanks to left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, who starred with a 10-wicket match haul, including figures of 7/124 in the first innings. The side, led by Jaydev Unadkat, a former India pacer, reached the quarterfinals last season before bowing out to Gujarat.
With selectors currently experimenting with young left-arm spinners like Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar in the India A setup against South Africa A, Jadeja will look to make the most of his Ranji appearance to regain rhythm and match sharpness ahead of the upcoming two-Test home series against South Africa, starting November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Earlier this month, Jadeja showcased his all-round brilliance in India’s innings and 140-run win over West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, scoring a century and taking 4 for 54 in the second innings, a performance that reaffirmed his value to the national side.
