Reports: India's T20I doors still open for Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav could still have a route back into India's T20I side despite getting dropped for the tour to Ireland and England. The right-handed batter was not only dropped as a batter but also replaced as captain by Shreyas Iyer.

However, there could still be a way back for Suryakumar. According to a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source, the 35-year-old could come back into contention should his performances in domestic cricket warrant a selection.

"Doors for Suryakumar Yadav are still open. He is not currently in the scheme of things, but he remains eligible to come back if he scores runs in domestic cricket consistently," a BCCI source told the press, via Deccan Chronicles.

It is worth mentioning that Suryakumar's underwhelming form for India and the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League played a pivotal role in losing his place in the T20I side. This was despite him leading the Men in Blue to the 2026 T20 World Cup title on home soil, beating New Zealand in the final. The T20 veteran scored just 270 runs in the 2026 IPL season at an average of 20.76.

India's life after Suryakumar has not started in the best fashion under Shreyas' leadership. The defending T20 champions first suffered a 2-0 series defeat to Ireland, the team's first bilateral defeat to the Men in Green. They then lost 4-0 to England, giving away their place as the number one-ranked side to Harry Brook's team.

It seems like Suryakumar is not in India's immediate plans in the shortest format of the game. The former captain was not picked for the side that is poised to travel to Zimbabwe for a three-match series. Despite a poor start to his tenure as captain, Shreyas continues to lead the team for their upcoming tour to Southern Africa.
