Mumbai Indians (MI) hopes of finishing the league stage strongly suffered a major setback on Saturday as Rajasthan Royals (RR) produced a commanding display at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2026. In a high-pressure contest with playoff implications, RR outclassed MI by 30 runs after delivering a complete performance with both bat and ball.
Amid the drama of the must-win encounter, one particular moment involving Rohit Sharma grabbed attention early in Mumbai’s chase and added the veteran opener to an unwanted IPL statistic.
Mumbai Indians were chasing a stiff 206-run target and desperately needed a positive start from their experienced top order. However, Jofra Archer struck immediately with a sharp delivery that angled into Rohit before moving away late off the pitch.
Attempting to work the ball toward the leg side, Rohit only managed a faint edge behind to depart without opening his account. The dismissal marked another unfortunate entry in the record books for the MI opener, as it became the 19th duck of his IPL career.

While the record is far from desirable, it also reflects the longevity and aggressive nature of several players who have spent years batting in difficult match situations across multiple IPL seasons.

Rajasthan Royals’ victory was built around a sensational all-round effort from Archer. Promoted up the order on a sluggish surface, Archer smashed a rapid 32 off just 15 deliveries and shifted momentum decisively in RR’s favour during the death overs. Dhruv Jurel also played a crucial knock of 38, while Dasun Shanaka added quick runs in the middle phase to help Rajasthan post an imposing 205/8.
Archer then made an immediate impact with the ball by dismissing Rohit and Naman Dhir early in the chase. Later, he returned to remove Hardik Pandya at a critical stage when Mumbai Indians were attempting a comeback. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s fighting 60 and Hardik’s aggressive cameo, MI eventually finished on 175/9. Archer ended with exceptional figures of 3/17 as Rajasthan Royals officially booked their place in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
