Rohit Sharma was the best captain I have played under: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has identified Rohit Sharma as the finest captain under whom he has played during his cricket career. The Mumbai batter reflected on his experience playing alongside Rohit in various formats and highlighted the qualities that made him stand out as a leader.

Suryakumar had been part of India's T20I setup for several years and had experienced different captaincy approaches during his international career. His assessment of Rohit's captaincy underscores the value he places on clear communication and the confidence a captain shows in his players.

"Rohit Sharma was the best captain I have played under, I learned a lot from him how to talk to players & how to back everyone," Suryakumar said on Aakash Chopra’s popular YouTube show, Baith & Bol.

Suryakumar recalled specific moments that demonstrated Rohit's temperament and composure under pressure. During the 2024 T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa, the match developed into a tense contest with India facing significant pressure. Throughout this demanding situation, Rohit maintained his composure and kept a relaxed demeanour on the field, which left an impression on Suryakumar.

The batter's comments reflected his respect for Rohit's leadership style and the way he managed players during high-pressure situations. Rohit's ability to remain calm when the stakes were highest demonstrated the qualities that Suryakumar valued most in a captain. The Mumbai skipper's approach to backing his players and maintaining open lines of communication had clearly resonated with the batter throughout their time together in the Indian team.

Interestingly, Suryakumar also played under Rohit's captaincy at the Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2023. So the right-handed batter has studied Rohit's leadership attributes from close quarters for more than half a decade.

Suryakumar is currently hoping to make his way back into India's T20I setup. He lost his place in the side despite leading India to the T20 World Cup title earlier this year. A strong Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign and a good IPL season next year could put him back in contention.
