The Asia Cup 2025 is just around the corner, and cricket fans across the continent are bracing for yet another thrilling edition of the tournament. With the competition set to feature some of the strongest teams from the region, the stage is perfectly set for high-intensity matches, individual brilliance, and unforgettable moments. As teams fine-tune their preparations, the buzz surrounding the upcoming edition has already started to capture the attention of players, experts, and fans alike.
Former Sri Lankan cricketer and current commentator Russel Arnold has thrown his weight behind Sri Lanka as a team capable of winning the Asia Cup 2025. Sharing his thoughts on the tournament, Arnold highlighted the progress and balance within the current squad.
“I think it’s going to be challenging and exciting as well because Sri Lanka are quietly finding players slotting into different positions and understanding their roles. It’s flowing down right throughout this team. The balance looks good. Hence, I think it’s a great stepping stone for them to see exactly where they are. If you get things right, I think they’ve got the goods to go all the way,” Arnold said, as quoted by Zee News.

Sri Lanka’s current unit looks well-structured, boasting a mix of experienced campaigners and young talents. With Charith Asalanka leading the side and Kusal Mendis taking up wicketkeeping duties, the batting lineup includes the likes of Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kamil Mishara, and Dasun Shanaka. Kamindu Mendis and Nuwanidu Fernando add stability to the middle order, while all-rounders such as Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, and Chamika Karunaratne provide crucial depth.
In the bowling department, Sri Lanka will rely on Maheesh Theekshana’s spin and the pace battery of Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, Dushmantha Chameera, and Binura Fernando to trouble opposition batters. The combination of skill, variety, and form makes this squad a dangerous contender in the Asia Cup 2025.
