Former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi has reacted after Rohit Sharma overtook his record for hitting most sixes in ODIs. Rohit recently surpassed Afridi's count of 351 to top the charts. Afridi claimed that he has always found Rohit's batting elegant, and expressed happiness that he went past his record.
He also recounted their playing days in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 at Deccan Chargers, revealing that he had a gut feeling that Rohit will represent India, which turned out to be true.
“Records are meant to be broken, and this too is now better. I am happy that a player whom I have always liked has broken this record. During our practice sessions at Deccan Chargers, I had watched him bat and his class impressed me. I knew that one day Rohit would play for India, and he has proved himself as a classy batter,” shared Afridi while speaking to Telecom Asia Sport.
Rohit, who has 355 sixes to his name in ODIs, went past Afridi's tally in Ranchi in the first ODI of the recently-concluded three-match series against South Africa. The record-beating six was a pull shot off Marco Jansen's bowling, which was his third six in the his innings.
Notably, Rohit went past Afridi's record in 269 innings, 100 fewer than Afridi's 369. If Rohit features in all the ODIs till the 2027 World Cup and the mega event as well, there is a chance of him getting to the 400-mark.
