Shakib Al Hasan breaks silence on his return to Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has stepped forward to address the growing uncertainty surrounding his international future.

Amid intense debate and speculation, the 39-year-old has made it clear that his priority remains cricket, not politics, as he hopes for one final opportunity to represent his country.

The controversy began after a recent interview where Shakib made remarks that were interpreted through a political lens. “Recently one of my statements in the media has created a lot of discussion. I want to clearly explain the matter to everyone. At this moment, my full focus is only on cricket. At this final stage of my career, I want to give my absolute best for the Bangladesh national team and, if given the opportunity, deliver some great performances for the country,” he wrote.

His words reflect both a sense of urgency and a desire to end his career on a positive note. For a player who has carried Bangladesh cricket for nearly two decades, the idea of one last chapter in national colours clearly holds deep emotional significance.

“Politics is very important for the development of a country. After ending my cricket career, I want to contribute to my country’s development. However, that does not have to be only through politics. It is possible to work for the country outside politics as well. But yes, it may be easier to do those things through politics,” he explained.

This balanced perspective seemed aimed at calming the narrative around his intentions. By separating his cricketing goals from his political views, Shakib attempted to shift attention back to what he does best – performing on the field.

He ended his message on an emotional note, appealing to fans for support as he looks to script a fitting conclusion to his career.

“I hope I can finish my cricket career wearing the red and green jersey with a smile on my face. For this, I seek prayers and love from all the people of Bangladesh,” he said.
