The Indian cricket team has shifted its attention towards the second Test against Sri Lanka after taking a 1-0 lead in the series. India registered a 165-run victory in the opening Test at Galle and will now travel to Colombo for the second encounter, with the visitors aiming to wrap up the series.
The second Test is scheduled to begin on August 23 at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), a venue that holds an important place in Sri Lankan cricket. During India’s preparations for the contest, Ravindra Jadeja was involved in a light-hearted exchange with a journalist that caught attention.
The moment took place as Jadeja walked towards the practice area carrying his kit bag while wearing India’s training gear. He spotted a journalist who had earlier described the SSC as the “Lord’s of Sri Lanka”, referring to the iconic cricket ground in London. Jadeja appeared amused by the comparison and decided to question the journalist about his description while walking past him.
“Kya bolta hai? Lord’s kaha jaata hai kya isko?” Jadeja said with a cheeky smile.
The SSC is often referred to as the “Lord’s of Sri Lanka” because of its traditional importance to the country’s cricket. The venue houses the headquarters of Sri Lanka Cricket and has hosted several important domestic and international matches over the years.

India head into the second Test with confidence after their comprehensive victory in Galle. The visitors will be looking to complete a series sweep, while Sri Lanka will need a strong response to level the contest. Jadeja had a mixed outing in the opening Test. He claimed three wickets in Sri Lanka’s first innings before returning figures of 1/71 from 23 overs in the second innings.
The veteran all-rounder also struggled with the bat, scoring 13 runs in the first innings and nine in the second, while Manav Suthar claimed a 10-wicket haul. He finished the match with 22 runs and four wickets overall. With India aiming to collect more World Test Championship (WTC) points, Jadeja will be expected to contribute more significantly with both bat and ball in the Colombo Test.
