In a significant development for Jharkhand cricket, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has announced a strong and well-balanced squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025–26. Dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been appointed captain, bringing both experience and explosive batting prowess to the side. Several notable IPL names, including Kumar Kushagra, Robin Minz, and Anukul Roy, have also earned spots, making Jharkhand one of the teams to watch this season.
The JSCA confirmed the squad earlier this week, with Kishan set to lead a promising group that blends youth with experience. Having played 206 T20 matches, Kishan’s credentials need little introduction. Over the years, he has represented multiple IPL franchises such as Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, delivering impactful performances at the highest level of franchise cricket.
With 5270 T20 runs at a strike rate of 134.20, Ishan remains one of India’s most explosive top-order batters. His recent form has also been encouraging, after a subdued outing in the first India A vs South Africa A ODI, he roared back with a fluent half-century in the series decider at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. His experience and attacking approach will be crucial for Jharkhand as they aim for a strong campaign.
Beyond their skipper, Jharkhand’s squad features several match-winners. Kushagra and Minz are known for their clean striking and ability to shift momentum quickly, making them valuable assets in the shortest format. Anukul, with his reliable left-arm spin and useful lower-order batting, adds balance to the team.
Jharkhand has been slotted into Elite Group D, a highly competitive pool featuring Delhi, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Saurashtra, and Tripura. The team will open their campaign against Delhi on November 26, aiming to kickstart their season with a strong performance.
Ishan Kishan (C/WK), Utkarsh Singh, Virat Singh, Kumar Kushagra (WK/VC), Robin Minz, Anukul Roy, Pankaj Kumar, Bala Krishna, Md Kounain Qureshi, Shubh Sharma, Amit Kumar, Manishi, Sushant Mishra, Vikas Singh, Saurabh Shekhar, Rajandeep Singh
