Sourav Ganguly in contention to dethrone brother Snehasish as CAB president

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has recently filed a nomination for the role of president of the CricketAssociation of Bengal. He arrived at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, September 14, to submit his candidature for the post. His elder brother Snehasish Ganguly has occupied the position for nearly three years now.
The elections for the same will take place on Monday, September 22. There are no other candidates who have put their names for the polls. There might be a very likely chance of Ganguly becoming the Bengal board's president unopposed. The Kolkata-born spoke on how he has had adequate experience in administrative prior and that this one will be 'no challenge' for him.
"It is no challenge. I have eight years of experience in this: five years as CAB President, three years as the BCCI President. So, I'll try and do my best," stated Ganguly, as quoted by The Indian Express.
He was the CAB president from 2015 to 2019. During his first stint, Ganguly had emphasized on the development of Bengal cricket by enhancing technologies and infrastructure in addition to player development programmes. Ganguly's experience came in handy for strengthening the grassroots level of Bengal cricket. It also helped foster better professionalism with an increase in the level of coaching due to upgraded facilities.
Ganguly recently took over as the head coach for Pretoria Capitals in the SA20. He replaced former English cricketer Jonathan Trott. Ganguly has also served as the team advisor of Delhi Capitals in 2019. He later became the Director of Cricket from 2023 to 2024. Ganguly is also labelled as one of those Indian captains who completely revolutionized the game with his elegant batting and charismatic leadership.

The former India international represented the country in 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, registering 7212 runs and 11363, while averaging 42.17 and 41.02, respectively. He was a seasoned cricketer for Bengal too. Ganguly also took part in 59 matches in the Indian Premier League during his playing days. He is currently the director of cricket at Delhi Capitals, and looks after the Capitals' franchise operations around the globe.
