India and Sri Lanka are set to face each other in the second and final Test of the India tour of Sri Lanka 2026 at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Ground in Colombo, beginning on August 23. India will enter the contest with momentum after securing a 165-run victory in Galle, while Sri Lanka will be looking to respond strongly and level the series on home soil.
The opening Test produced several positives for India, with Devdutt Padikkal scoring 167 and Manav Suthar making a major impact with the ball. Suthar claimed 10 wickets in the match, including figures of 6/55 in the second innings, as India bowled Sri Lanka out for 206 while defending 372. Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with three wickets in the first innings.
The five-day forecast for Colombo points towards hot and humid conditions with a significant threat of rain throughout the Test. The possibility of showers increases around the middle and latter stages of the match, which could make interruptions a major factor.

The SSC surface is expected to offer a balanced contest between bat and ball rather than turning into a spin-friendly track from the opening day. The first two days could provide batters with relatively comfortable conditions, with true bounce and a good surface for stroke-making. The pitch is likely to undergo natural wear as the Test progresses. The expected humidity and moisture caused by the forecast rain could also help slower bowlers extract more grip and turn from around the third afternoon.
Fast bowlers may find some assistance when the conditions are overcast, particularly with the new ball. However, the SSC surface has traditionally been more challenging for pacers, meaning spinners could become increasingly important as the match progresses. The toss could therefore play a role, especially if the captain winning it believes there is enough early assistance for the bowlers.
