Former Indian captain Virat Kohli lauded the Indian Women’s Cricket Team for their sensational semifinal victory over Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, describing it as a true display of resilience, belief, and passion.
In one of the most captivating run chases in women’s cricket history, a brilliant century from Jemimah Rodrigues and yet another composed knock from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur powered India to a record-breaking triumph. The team successfully chased down a daunting 339-run target, the highest-ever in women’s ODIs and the biggest run chase in a 50-over World Cup knockout match across both men’s and women’s cricket.
“What a victory by our team over a mighty opponent like Australia. A great chase by the girls and a standout performance by Jemimah in a big game. A true display of resilience, belief, and passion. Well done, Team India!,” wrote Virat Kohli on his official 'X' handle.
Indian ODI and Test skipper Shubman Gill shared his thoughts on the Indian Women’s team’s performance in the semifinal of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Gill praised the side for their spirited display, describing the victory over Australia as a testament to their grit, determination, and outstanding team effort.
“Absolute grit, and terrific efforts by the #WomenInBlue! What a win! An innings to remember from #ICCWomensWorldCup2025,” wrote Gill on X.
Speaking about the game, Australia Women won the toss and opted to bat first. Skipper Alyssa Healy was dismissed early, but Phoebe Litchfield anchored the innings with a superb 119, while Ellyse Perry added a valuable 77, as the duo stitched together a 155-run partnership for the second wicket.
After Litchfield’s dismissal, India clawed their way back into the contest, reducing Australia to 265/6. However, Ashleigh Gardner (63) and Kim Garth put up a 66-run stand, guiding Australia to a competitive total of 338 in 49.5 overs. Among the Indian bowlers, Shree Charani (2/49) and Deepti Sharma (2/73) stood out with key breakthroughs.
During the chase, India found themselves at 59/2 in the 10th over, but Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the innings with a commanding partnership. Richa Ghosh (26) and Amanjot Kaur (15*) provided valuable cameos late in the innings, as India completed the chase with five wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.
With this emphatic win, India booked their place in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final, where they will face South Africa on Sunday, November 2.
