Suryakumar Yadav denies false statement, sends special message to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav, who was dropped from India’s T20I squad ahead of the ongoing England series, took to his official social media handle on Tuesday to deny a statement that has been falsely attributed to him on social media. The Mumbai batter also used the post to extend his support to the team and leave a personal message for teenage debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Suryakumar was removed as India’s T20I captain in June 2026, with selectors naming Shreyas Iyer as his replacement for the Ireland and England tours. The 35-year-old had led India to the T20 World Cup 2026 title with a 96-run win over New Zealand, but a prolonged dip in batting form saw him left out of the squad altogether. Among those brought in was 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who went on to make his T20I debut at Old Trafford earlier in the series.
“I’m very happy for the team and wish them nothing but the very best, always. I know the boys are giving it their all, and they will always have my full support,” he wrote on X.
The right-hander also addressed the young Sooryavanshi directly, sending an encouraging message for what is expected to be a long and rewarding international career.
“A special word for Vaibhav – you’re at the start of what promises to be a very exciting journey. Enjoy every moment and keep making the country proud,” Suryakumar added.
The experienced batter then turned his attention to the false claim doing the rounds on social media.
“I’ve also noticed a statement being circulated online that has been falsely attributed to me. I want to make it clear that I have not made or authorized any such statement. Please don’t believe or share unverified information,” he wrote.
“My support for Indian cricket, my teammates, and the game will always speak louder than words falsely attributed to me,” he added.
The fourth T20I between England and India is scheduled at the County Ground in Bristol on Thursday, July 9.
