Suryakumar Yadav floors Pakistani journalist with witty reply after India’s Asia Cup 2025 title win

India’s Asia Cup 2025 triumph against Pakistan in Dubai was followed by an unusual press conference exchange that has since gone viral. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav, who led his side to a five-wicket win in the final, found himself fielding a pointed question from a Pakistani journalist that blended cricket with politics. What followed, however, was a light-hearted reply that left the room in laughter and drew praise on social media.
During the media interaction, a Pakistani journalist chose to focus on India’s conduct throughout the tournament rather than the final itself. The pointed remarks essentially accused Suryakumar of bringing politics into cricket by avoiding handshakes with Pakistan players, skipping pre-toss photographs, and allegedly making political undertones in press conferences.
The reporter said: “Aaj aap champion bane, achi game kheli aapne. Lekin sawal ye hai ki aapne is porey tournament mai aapka behaviour raha Pakistan team ke saath, aapne handshake nahi kiya. Phir trophy ke liye aapne photo-session nahi kiya, phir aapne siyasi press conference ki. Aap pehle captain hain jinhone cricket ke andar siyasat lekar aaye.”
Instead of taking offence, Suryakumar chose humour to defuse the tension. With a smile, he responded: “Gussa ho rahe ho aap! Sawal pata he nahi chala aapka. Aapne chaar questions puch liye. (You are getting angry. I didn’t even understand what your question was. You asked four questions together.)”
The cheeky retort immediately lightened the atmosphere, drawing laughter from journalists and even some chuckles from Abhishek Sharma, who was sitting beside Surya. Social media users were quick to share the clip, praising Suryakumar for his calm and witty handling of a politically loaded query.

On the field, India showcased grit and intent to secure their ninth Asia Cup title. Pakistan, after being well-placed at 113/1 with Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46) in command, collapsed to 146 all out. Kuldeep Yadav’s 4/30 dismantled the middle order, while Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel grabbed two wickets apiece.
In reply, India overcame early jitters at 20/3, thanks to Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 off 53 balls and Shivam Dube’s 33. Faheem Ashraf bowled impressively for Pakistan, taking 3/29, but his efforts were not enough as India chased down the target in 19.4 overs.
