South Africa delivered a commanding performance to crush West Indies by nine wickets in Match 47 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, chasing down 177 with a staggering 23 balls to spare.
After being put in to bat, the West Indies posted a competitive 176/8 in their 20 overs. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Romario Shepherd’s counter-attacking fifty (52 off 37 balls), along with Jason Holder (49 off 31 balls) helped them push towards a challenging total.
However, South Africa’s bowling unit kept things under control for most of the innings, with disciplined spells in the middle and death overs, restricting the Caribbean side for 176. Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch picked up two wickets each, whereas Ngidi picked up three.
In response, the Proteas were simply clinical. The chase was headlined by a blistering knock from Aiden Markram (82 off 46 balls), who anchored the innings with authority and ensured there were obstacles in the chase. He was well supported by opening partner Quinton de Kock (47 off 24 balls) and Ryan Rickleton (45 off 28 balls).
The powerplay set the tone for the run chase, with South Africa’s top order attacking from the outset. Once momentum shifted in their favour, there was no looking back.
With this emphatic victory, South Africa have all but booked their spot in the semifinals from Group 1. West Indies, on the other hand, will now have to win their game against India to qualify.
It was an Aiden Markram show at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, against the West Indies. The South African skipper helped his side chase down the target of 177 in just 16.1 overs. He scored 82 runs in just 46 balls, at the strike rate of 178.26. He is now the second-highest run scorer of the tournament with 264 runs to his name.

South Africa’s pacer Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers. He produced one of the finest display of slower balls. He got Brandon King out early in the Windies' innings. Later on, he took the wickets of Rovman Powell and Roston Chase, demolishing their middle-order. He finished his quota of four overs, picking up three wickets, while conceding 30 runs.
