Test cricket stadiums in India
The Barsapara Cricket Stadium has officially become the 30th venue in India to host a Test match after the second Test of the series between India and South Africa went underway on Saturday, November 22.
Guwahati has also become the easternmost Test venue in India and the first in the North-East part of the nation. In order to beat the early sunset, the ongoing Test will have a Tea break before Lunch in a historic first occurrence. It will also have a 9:00 AM start, half-an-hour before Test matches actually commence in other venues in India.
Notably, Mumbai was the first city to have hosted a cricket match in India, but it was neither Wankhede Stadium nor Brabourne, as Gymkhana Ground in the same locality witnessed the maiden Test match on the Indian soil. Since then, iconic venues in Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kanpur, and Mohali have become prominent Test centres in the country.
