'There were several issues which left me completely humiliated' - Jason Gillespie on stepping down as Pakistan's head coach

Jason Gillespie stepped down from his role as Pakistan's head coach in December 2024 after his relationship with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had hit an all-time low.
The legendary former Australian speedster was recently asked by a fan about his opinion on the Pakistan Super League (PSL), to which he replied, “It’s a great competition.” Another fan then questioned why he left Pakistan cricket if he liked the country's premier franchise T20 competition. Gillespie responded by opening up about his harrowing experiences during his time with Pakistan cricket.
“I was coaching the Pakistan Test side. The PCB sacked our senior assistant coach with ZERO communication with me about it- as head coach I found this situation completely unacceptable. There were a number of other issues which left me completely humiliated.”
Under Gillespie's coaching, Pakistan were whitewashed by Bangladesh 2-0 in a home Test series in September 2024. However, the Men in Green bounced back commendably during a Test series against England later in the year. After losing the first Test, Pakistan won two matches in a row to take the series 2-1. This performance showed signs of a resurgence in red-ball cricket for the Asian giants. However, in December 2024, Gillespie resigned from his role as head coach just ahead of the tour of South Africa.

In the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, Shan Masood-led Pakistan are placed at No. 5. They have played two Test matches against South Africa at home in October 2025. The series ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
