Tilak Varma scores stunning century in Telangana T20 days after leading India A to Tri-Nation Series title
Just after captaining the India A side to victory in the 2026 Tri-Nation Series in Sri Lanka, Tilak Varma has lit the cricketing world alight with a stunning century in the Telangana T20 2026. The southpaw scored an unbeaten 136 to single-handedly lead his Medak Falcons side home in a chase of 259 against the Warangal Warriors on the eve of June 22 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Batting first, the Warriors put on a mammoth 258 for 7 in their 20 overs, with skipper Aman Rao Perala scoring a mammoth 142 off just 48 balls. He struck at 295, and scored 12 fours and a whopping 13 sixes. He put on a 133-run stand for the opening wicket with fellow opener Harshit Choudhary, which included 101 runs in the powerplay. The 22-year-old, who was with the Rajasthan Royals in the 2026 IPL season, was dismissed in the 14th over, having set the platform for his side to reach the massive total.
In response, the Falcons were dented early with a wicket in the powerplay, which brought Tilak onto the crease. He held the innings together, despite wickets falling around him, finishing unbeaten on 136 off just 48 balls. Despite complaints over his strike rate during the One-Day series with India A, Tilak's powerful hitting ability was on full display as he took his side home with three wickets in hand and just two balls to spare. He also registered figures of 2 for 29 from three overs with his handy off-spin, and was named the Player of the Match for a stunning all-round performance.
Tilak is set to join India's T20 side for their series against Ireland and England, having been recently appointed as vice-captain. He will deputise for Shreyas Iyer, who took over the reins from Suryakumar Yadav. In the tri-nation series, he was India A's leading run-scorer with 275 runs, averaging 55 but striking at a meagre 74.93, with four half-centuries.
