On Thursday, May 14, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka.
Apart from India A and Sri Lanka A, Afghanistan's A team will also participate in the three-team event. Following the limited-overs tri-series, India A will also play two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A, with the squad for the red-ball fixtures to be announced at a later date.
The white-ball series will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, while the multi-day matches will take place at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
Tilak Varma, who has been having a disappointing campaign with the bat for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, has been named as skipper of the side. He will have Riyan Parag as his deputy. The Assam batter has been leading the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026. However, his performances with the bat have been rather underwhelming.
The likes of Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and Prabhsimran Singh, however, have earned call-ups thanks to their stunning display in IPL 2026. Kumar Kushagra, who played just one game so far in IPL 2026 for the Gujarat Titans, has been kept as Prabhsimran's backup.
There are several spin-bowling all-rounders in the side apart from Parag. Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, and Vipraj Nigam are capable enough with bat and ball. Harsh Dubey could play most of the matches as he is a very skilful left-arm spinner.
In the seam-bowling department, all eyes will be on Anshul Kamboj, who has already picked up 19 wickets in 11 matches this season in the IPL. Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh, and Arshad Khan are other promising seamers in the side.
