Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to appoint former Australia allrounder Tom Moody as their Global Director of Cricket. Moody will oversee operations across LSG’s multiple franchises as part of the role - LSG in the IPL, Durban’s Super Giants in SA20, and their Manchester-based team in The Hundred.
He will work alongside his former Western Australia and Australia teammate Justin Langer, who continues as head coach, and Kane Williamson, who was recently appointed as the team’s Strategic Advisor.
The 60-year-old is one of the most respected coaches in world cricket, boasting over two decades of experience in international and franchise coaching. Earlier this year in England, e guided the Oval Invincibles to their third consecutive Hundred title as head coach. He also held a similar role with the Desert Vipers in the ILT20, leading them to runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2025.
It is understood that both Surrey and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), owners of the Mumbai Indians who recently acquired a 49% stake in the Oval Invincibles, were keen to retain Moody. However, as per ESPNcricinfo, Moody chose to accept the LSG offer, as it presented him with a broader, more influential role across multiple teams.

Owned by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG), LSG has not yet made the appointment official. Details of Moody’s contract tenure remain unconfirmed. The move marks Moody’s return to the IPL for the first time since leaving Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after the 2022 season.
Moody had two stints with SRH, the first from 2013 to 2019, during which the team won the 2016 IPL title, and a second spell beginning in 2021 when he returned as Director of Cricket before being promoted to Head Coach the following year after Trevor Bayliss’ exit.
At LSG, Moody will succeed Zaheer Khan, who previously served as Global Director of Cricket for the 2024 IPL season. Although Zaheer had been appointed on a two-year contract, he parted ways with the franchise in September 2024, ending the association after just one season.
