India’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the history books during India U-19’s ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 clash against Bangladesh in Bulawayo on Saturday. Just 14 years old, Suryavanshi produced a fearless knock of 72 off 67 deliveries, shattering long-standing records and announcing himself as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket.
Opening the innings with remarkable composure and intent, Suryavanshi wasted no time in taking the attack to the Bangladeshi bowlers. His innings, laced with six boundaries and three towering sixes, was highlighted by a blistering half-century that came off just 30 balls. At 14 years and 296 days, he became the youngest player ever to score a 50-plus total in a Men’s U-19 World Cup match.
The previous record was held by Afghanistan’s Shahidullah Kamal, who achieved the feat at 15 years and 19 days in 2014. Pakistan star Babar Azam, who later went on to dominate international cricket, now slips to third on the list following his fifty in the 2010 edition of the tournament.
Suryavanshi now sits atop an illustrious list of teenage achievers at the U-19 World Cup, which also features Afghanistan’s Perwez Malikzai and Nepal’s Sharad Vesawkar. The milestone not only underlines his prodigious talent but also places him ahead of several players who later forged successful international careers.
For Indian cricket, the moment is particularly special as Suryavanshi becomes the youngest from the country to reach such heights on the global youth stage, reinforcing India’s reputation as a conveyor belt of emerging talent.

The 14-year-old’s exploits did not end with a single record. During the same match, Suryavanshi also surpassed Virat Kohli on the list of Indian batters with the most runs in Youth ODIs. In just 20 Youth ODI appearances, Suryavanshi has already amassed 1,047 runs, overtaking Kohli’s tally of 978 runs scored across 28 matches at the junior level.
Among Indians, former captain Vijay Zol still leads the chart with 1,404 runs from 36 matches, while Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto remains the overall top run-scorer in Youth ODIs with 1,820 runs.
