Pakistan opener Saim Ayub’s poor run with the bat continued as he registered his fourth duck in six innings during the Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2025 against Bangladesh in Dubai. The left-hander, once again, fell early, adding another inning without an impact.

Facing off-spinner Mahedi Hasan in just the second over, Ayub went down the track but failed to connect properly, handing a straightforward catch to Rishad Hossain at mid-on. The dismissal saw Pakistan struggling at 5 for 2 inside two overs. For Ayub, it was his ninth duck in 45 T20I innings, moving him to second on Pakistan’s all-time list of most ducks in the format, behind only Umar Akmal (10). He now has six ducks in 2025 alone, equalling Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava for the most in a single calendar year.

Ayub’s Asia Cup campaign has been miserable. After golden ducks against Oman and India in the group stage and a two-ball duck versus UAE, Thursday’s three-ball duck added to his woes. His only notable contribution in the tournament remains a 21-run knock against India, while his other five innings have seen a meagre total of two runs.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s first innings was equally disappointing. Sent in to bat first, they posted just 135 for 8 in 20 overs. Taskin Ahmed gave Bangladesh the perfect start by removing Sahibzada Farhan for four in the very first over. Ayub followed soon after, before Fakhar Zaman perished after adding just 13 off 20 balls and fell to Rishad Hossain.

By the halfway mark, Pakistan were at 33 for 4. Skipper Salman Agha (19 off 23) and Hussain Talat (3 off 7) tried to stabilize, along with late cameos from Mohammad Haris (31 off 23) and Mohammad Nawaz (25 off 15) to push the total past 130. Shaheen Shah Afridi chipped in with a 19. Taskin finished with 3 for 28, while Mahedi and Rishad struck twice each.
