In a historic reshuffle of the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, an Indian legend Virat Kohli has reclaimed the world’s top spot on January 14 marking his 11th distinct stint at the summit. The update follows a clinical performance in the opening match of the ongoing series against New Zealand in Vadodara, where the 37-year-old’s masterclass led the hosts to a commanding victory.
Kohli has officially stormed back to the No. 1 position in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, displacing teammate Rohit Sharma following India’s four-wicket win over New Zealand. Kohli’s match-winning 93 off 91 balls helped the hosts successfully chase down a target of 300 in Vadodara, marking his first return to the top spot since July 2021. The veteran is currently enjoying a purple patch with scores of 74, 135, 102, 65, and 93 in his last five outings. Having first reached No. 1 in October 2013, Kohli has now spent a total of 825 days at the top, the most by any Indian and the 10th most in the history of the game, trailing legends like Viv Richards and Brian Lara.
