VVS Laxman as India's Head Coach: Stats & Record
Former India batter VVS Laxman will once again take charge of the Indian team as head coach for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe national cricket team, beginning on July 23 at the Harare Sports Club.
India have endured a difficult period in white-ball cricket, suffering a 4-0 T20I series defeat and a 2-1 ODI series loss to England. Since the 2026 T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue have struggled to find consistency and are looking to rebuild their squad with an eye on the future.
With regular head coach Gautam Gambhir being rested after overseeing the tours of Afghanistan and England, Laxman will lead the coaching staff in Zimbabwe. Gambhir is expected to return for India's Test series, which begins on August 15.

Laxman has enjoyed considerable success whenever he has been entrusted with coaching responsibilities. He first guided India during a two-match T20I series against Ireland cricket team, where the visitors completed a comfortable 2-0 series sweep.
He then took charge during the 2022 Asia Cup, where India won three of their five matches. Although the team narrowly missed out on a place in the final, Laxman earned praise for his calm leadership and backing of young players.
One of his biggest achievements came at the 2022 Zimbabwe ODI series, where India registered a dominant 3-0 clean sweep. In 2023, he coached a young Indian side to the gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, adding another milestone to his coaching résumé.
Laxman also oversaw India's 2024 T20I tour of Zimbabwe, where a youthful side led by Shubman Gill bounced back from an opening defeat to claim the five-match series 4-1.
Having produced positive results whenever he has stepped into the role, Laxman will now aim to continue his impressive coaching record and help India begin another new chapter on a winning note.
