The Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur witnessed a nail-biting finish as West Indies edged past Bangladesh in a dramatic Super Over to win the second ODI by one run. Spinner Akeal Hosein was the hero of the night, holding his composure under immense pressure to guide the visitors to victory. With this result, the three-match ODI series stands level at 1-1, setting the stage for a thrilling decider.
On a dry and slow wicket, Bangladesh opted to bat first after winning the toss. West Indies made a surprising tactical call by bowling 50 consecutive overs of spin, something rarely seen in modern-day cricket. The Caribbean spinners—led by Hosein and Gudakesh Motie—kept Bangladesh’s scoring rate in check for the majority of the innings.
Just when it seemed Bangladesh would struggle to cross 180, Rishad Hossain played a counterattacking cameo, lifting the hosts past 200. His clean hitting against the turning ball revived the innings and gave Bangladesh’s bowlers something to defend.
Chasing 200-plus, West Indies started well through Alick Athanaze and Keacy Carty, who put on a steady fifty-run partnership. Rishad once again turned the game in Bangladesh’s favor with crucial breakthroughs. But skipper Shai Hope stood tall, playing a responsible knock to keep the chase alive.
With Justin Greaves providing good support, Hope took the game deep. However, a series of twists in the final over—including a dropped catch by Nurul Hasan off the last ball—meant the game was tied and went into a Super Over.
