Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka produced a brilliant innings during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against India on Friday in Dubai. However, his monstrous six off Harshit Rana put a visible dent in a sponsored car parked behind the advertising hoardings at the Dubai International Stadium. While the video of the ball hitting the vehicle went viral, Nissanka’s heroic century ultimately went in vain as Sri Lanka lost to India in a thrilling Super Over finish.
The incident took place in the 11th over of Sri Lanka’s chase. Facing Rana’s slower off-cutter, Nissanka went deep in his crease and went for a cross-batted shot. The ball flew flat over deep mid-wicket and hit straight onto the car parked over the ropes, leaving a dent.

The 27-year-old batter was in sublime touch, bringing up his maiden T20I century in just 52 balls. He finished with a stunning 107 off 58 deliveries, laced with seven fours and six sixes. In the process, Nissanka surpassed Virat Kohli’s record for becoming the player with the most 50-plus scores in the tournament's history. He also became Sri Lanka’s highest individual scorer in the format, overtaking Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 104.
Nissanka’s innings saw him take on Rana, smashing 34 runs off just 15 deliveries from the pacer. His 127-run stand with Kusal Perera (58 off 32) kept the team in the driver's seat during the chase.
Earlier, India had posted 202/5 thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s 61, Tilak Varma’s 49*, and Sanju Samson’s quickfire 39. Sri Lanka’s bowlers picked up regular wickets, but India’s batting ensured they crossed the 200-mark.
In reply, Sri Lanka stayed in the hunt throughout courtesy of Nissanka and Perera. With 12 needed off the final over, Rana dismissed Nissanka on the very first ball, caught at short fine leg by Varun Chakravarthy. Despite a valiant effort from Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka could only tie the scores at 202/5, pushing the contest into a Super Over.
Surprisingly, the island nation they chose not to send Nissanka, their in-form centurion, into the Super Over. Instead, Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka walked out, with Kamindu Mendis slotted next. Arshdeep Singh bowled brilliantly, removing both Perera and Shanaka while conceding just two runs. In reply, Suryakumar Yadav punched Wanindu Hasaranga’s first ball through the infield, running three alongside Shubman Gill to seal the win for India.
