The 27th match of the Indian Premier League 2026 delivered high drama as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locked horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. In a pulsating southern derby, SRH successfully defended their total to secure a 10-run victory. While the contest featured explosive batting and crucial breakthroughs, it was Heinrich Klaasen’s sensational catch that stole the spotlight and proved to be a defining moment in the game.
CSK’s chase of 195 began with intent, and young batter Ayush Mhatre looked particularly dangerous during the powerplay. The right-hander was timing the ball sweetly and seemed set to take the game away from SRH with his aggressive strokeplay. However, his promising innings was brought to an abrupt end thanks to a moment of sheer brilliance from Klaasen in the field.
The incident occurred on the fourth ball of the fifth over when Nitish Reddy delivered a length ball to Mhatre. Attempting to clear the infield, Mhatre mistimed his shot, sending the ball towards the left of mid-off. Klaasen reacted instantly, sprinting to his left before launching himself into the air. Stretching out his left hand, he managed to get his fingers under the ball while airborne. As he descended, he showed remarkable presence of mind to control the ball with his other hand and complete the catch safely.
The stadium erupted as Klaasen held on, with replays confirming the extraordinary effort. The dismissal not only removed a dangerous batter but also shifted the momentum firmly in SRH’s favour. Reddy, who was already making an impact with the ball, picked up his second wicket, further denting CSK’s chase.

Abhishek smashed a quickfire 59 off just 22 deliveries, setting the tone at the top, while Klaasen anchored the innings with a composed 59 off 39 balls. For CSK, Jamie Overton (3/37) and Anshul Kamboj (3/22) were the standout bowlers who kept SRH in check during the latter stages.
In reply, CSK fought hard but ultimately fell short, finishing at 184/8. Matthew Short (34 off 30), Mhatre (30 off 13), and Sarfaraz Khan (25 off 19) got starts but couldn’t convert them into match-winning contributions. SRH’s bowling unit held their nerve under pressure, with Eshan Malinga leading the charge with figures of 3/29, while Nitish Reddy chipped in with 2/31.
