India secured a vital 21-run victory against Oman in the 12th Match of Group A at the Asia Cup 2025 held in Abu Dhabi on September 19. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 188 for 8, anchored by Sanju Samson’s 56 off 45 balls and an explosive 38 from Abhishek Sharma in just 15 deliveries.
Despite losing early wickets, contributions from Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, and Harshit Rana helped India set a challenging target. Oman fought hard in response, with Aamir Kaleem scoring a brilliant 64 and Hammad Mirza adding 51. However, Oman fell short at 167/4, handing India another win and maintaining their unbeaten streak in the group stage.
Following the intense match, India captain Suryakumar Yadav went beyond the usual courtesies, delivering an inspiring pep talk to the Oman players. His message focused on pride in effort and the importance of attitude and culture in cricket. Suryakumar said, “Aaj neend aana chahiye bhai. Humne apna best cricket khela. Humne apna best diya. Jeetoge haaroge wo decide hota rahega aap log ke attitude aur culture ke upar…” He urged the Oman team to remember the quality and brand of cricket they played and to carry that spirit forward regardless of the outcome. Suryakumar’s encouraging words and sportsmanship impressed the Oman players and cricket fans, highlighting the true essence of the sport beyond rivalry.

India’s innings was marked by a strategic approach where all batters got a chance to contribute except captain Suryakumar, who did not bat. The Abu Dhabi pitch offered turn and grip, challenging both sides. Oman’s bowlers kept India under pressure but could not contain the power-hitting from Abhishek and Samson. In reply, Oman’s solid partnership between Kaleem and Jatinder Singh laid the foundation, but wickets at vital moments slowed their chase. India’s bowlers, including Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya, executed well under pressure to restrict the hosts.
The match illuminated not only India’s cricketing depth but also the growing competitive spirit of associate nations like Oman. Suryakumar’s gesture of encouragement echoed the spirit of the game where respect and motivation transcend the boundary ropes. India’s win puts them firmly in the Super Four stage, setting up a high-stakes clash with Pakistan, while Oman will look to build on their commendable performance in future tournaments.
This encounter will remain memorable for both the cricket and the exemplary sportsmanship shown by Suryakumar, reminding all that attitude and culture shape the spirit of cricket as much as runs and wickets.
