Ishan Kishan produced a moment of pure wicketkeeping brilliance during East Zone’s dominant Duleep Trophy 2026 quarter-final victory over North East Zone in Bengaluru. The East Zone captain pulled off a sharp, one-handed stumping that immediately reminded fans of former India captain MS Dhoni’s trademark speed behind the stumps.

The stunning dismissal came on Day 2 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 2 when Kishan stood up to the wickets against medium-pacer Abhijit K. Sarkar. Sarkar sent a delivery down the leg side to Pheiroijam Jotin, who struggled to maintain his balance while attempting to play the ball. Kishan initially appeared to have fumbled the collection, but the wicketkeeper quickly recovered.

In a flash, he gathered the ball and removed the bails with one hand. Thapa’s foot was briefly off the ground, leaving him short of his crease. The dismissal showcased Kishan’s remarkable reflexes and ability to stay involved even after an imperfect first take. The footage quickly attracted attention online, with several fans drawing comparisons to Dhoni, whose lightning-fast stumpings became one of the most recognisable features of his international career.

The stumping was one of several highlights in a completely one-sided contest. North East Zone had initially made the better start after winning the toss and choosing to field, reducing East Zone to 25/2 and then 128/5. However, Shahbaz Ahmed and Sudip Kumar Gharami changed the momentum with a remarkable batting partnership. Shahbaz produced the innings of his career, scoring 167 from 244 deliveries, while Gharami added a fluent 146 off 185 balls.

Their partnership transformed East Zone’s position and helped them post a commanding 467 in the first innings. North East Zone had little answer once their turn with the bat arrived. After reaching 72/2, they suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their final eight wickets for only 39 runs. Sarkar was outstanding with the ball, taking 5/20, while Shahbaz contributed three wickets as North East Zone were dismissed for just 111.

With a huge first-innings advantage, Kishan opted to enforce the follow-on. The decision immediately put North East Zone under further pressure. Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar caused problems for the top order in overcast conditions before left-arm spinner Anukul Roy took control of the middle and lower order. Roy finished with impressive figures of 5/37.

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi also made an impact, claiming two wickets in four deliveries during a memorable over. North East Zone briefly resisted through Pheiroijam Jotin and Akash Choudhary, who added 39 for the ninth wicket. But Roy eventually ended the contest after lunch on Day 3, dismissing Choudhary before Jotin was stumped by Kishan.

East Zone completed an emphatic innings-and-210-run victory inside three days. Shahbaz was the standout performer, combining his career-best 167 with four wickets to earn the Player of the Match award.
