In the 23rd match of The Hundred League 2025, defending champions Oval Invincibles continued their scintillating form, overpowering an in-form Trent Rockets side with a comfortable chase. Among all the thrilling moments that left fans completely stunned, one stood out when Jordan Cox made a brilliant direct throw to run out a key player.
The moment unfolded in the 99th delivery of the first innings when Australian powerhouse Stoinis was desperately attempting a quick second run. Facing a low full toss from Tom Curran, the hard-hitting batsman had stabbed the ball towards long-off. Stoinis and his partner, Sam Hain, were keen for the extra run, but it was a decision they would soon regret. From the deep, fielder Cox swiftly gathered the ball and released an arrow-like throw. The ball flew with superb accuracy and perfectly hit the stumps at Stoinis’s end as he scrambled back. A visibly disappointed Stoinis was left stranded, dismissed for 12 runs. The brilliant run-out was followed by animated celebrations from Cox with a signal of money.

Trent Rockets put on a scintillating display with the bat in the first innings of the match. After being invited to bat first, they started brilliantly, with Joe Root finding his rhythm in the shorter format to score a superb 76 runs off just 41 balls. A valuable contribution from Rehan Ahmed was then followed by a quickfire 25 runs from just 8 balls by George Linde, powering the Rockets to a massive total of 171.
Chasing a challenging total, the Invincibles once again lived up to their name. After losing Will Jacks early, the home side never looked back as the duo of Cox and Curran took control. They stitched together a blistering partnership of 96 runs in just 43 balls, taking the game away from the visitors. Cox remained not out on 58, while Curran scored a brilliant 54 runs. With this comfortable victory, Oval Invincibles have solidified their position at the top of the table. The win, their fifth of the season, makes them the clear frontrunners in the race for the playoffs.
