India wrapped up a dominant victory in the first Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, registering a thumping win by an innings and 140 runs. The hosts, who had declared their innings at 448/5, dismantled the West Indies batting lineup across both innings with a commanding bowling display led by Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav.
The third day’s play was marked by India’s ruthless precision and fielding brilliance — none more evident than KL Rahul’s sensational catch to dismiss Brandon King early in the innings.
The moment of brilliance came on the second ball of the 17th over, bowled by Jadeja. Having overpitched for most of his spell, Jadeja cleverly shortened his length just enough to catch Brandon King off guard. The West Indian batter, expecting another full delivery, hesitated on the back foot and ended up poking tentatively at the ball.
The ball caught the outside edge and dipped quickly towards the slip cordon, but Rahul, positioned at first slip, reacted with lightning reflexes. He lunged forward and scooped the catch inches above the turf — a moment that left both bowler and teammates ecstatic. King departed for just 5 runs off 18 balls, as West Indies slipped deeper into trouble, eventually being bowled out for 146.

India’s bowling attack proved too good for the visitors, with Jadeja spearheading the charge. The left-arm spinner claimed four wickets in the second innings, showcasing his consistency and control on a pitch that offered variable bounce and turn. His relentless line and length kept the West Indies batters guessing throughout the session.
Siraj and Kuldeep chipped in with two wickets each, ensuring there was no escape for the West Indies middle and lower order. Siraj’s fiery spells with the new ball set the tone, while Kuldeep’s flight and drift provided the perfect complement to Jadeja’s accuracy.
With this emphatic win, India have taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and will head into the second Test full of confidence.
