Queensland’s Mitchell Swepson produced a breathtaking moment of brilliance in the field during the Australia One Day Cup 2025-26, pulling off a one-handed stunner to dismiss centurion Joel Curtis. The spectacular grab lit up the 5th match of the tournament at Allan Border Field, Brisbane, as Western Australia posted a commanding total of 321/9.

Western Australia’s innings revolved around the classy batting of their wicketkeeper Curtis, who showcased his talent with a fluent 116 off 108 deliveries. His knock was laced with 12 crisp boundaries and four towering sixes, keeping the scoreboard ticking and applying pressure on the Queensland attack. Curtis found a strong partner in Sam Whiteman, who compiled a steady 83, helping WA build a solid platform despite regular breakthroughs.

Together, the pair frustrated the Queensland bowlers and added crucial momentum to Western Australia’s innings. Their stand ensured the visitors crossed the 300-run mark, setting up a formidable target for the hosts.

Though Curtis and Whiteman dominated large phases of the innings, Queensland’s bowling unit struck back through leg-spinner Swepson and pacer Tom Straker. Swepson was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 4/52, using his variations smartly to outfox the WA batters. Straker complemented him well, chipping in with 3/65 and consistently testing the middle order.

Their combined efforts ensured Western Australia did not completely run away with the game after being in a commanding position earlier in the innings. But the highlight of the day, undoubtedly, came in the 32nd over when Swepson turned fielding brilliance into a game-changing dismissal.

It was the third ball of the 32nd over, bowled by Straker, that produced one of the finest moments of the season so far. Straker delivered a full ball outside off, tempting Curtis into an ambitious lofted shot towards the long-off boundary. The ball seemed destined to clear the inner circle, but Swepson, stationed at mid-off, had other ideas.

Timing his leap to perfection, Swepson soared into the air and plucked the ball with his right hand in a single motion. The crowd erupted as he landed safely, holding on to what can only be described as a screamer. The dismissal ended Curtis’s superb innings and shifted momentum back towards Queensland.

A special grab brings to an end a special knock.
