In a moment that perfectly captured his renewed focus on fitness, India‘s veteran opener, Rohit Sharma, gently but firmly refused to eat the celebratory victory cake after the team sealed a decisive 2-1 ODI series win over South Africa on Saturday. His witty reason, caught on video, has since gone viral, leaving fans and teammates alike in splits.
The light-hearted scene unfolded at the team hotel following India’s commanding nine-wicket victory in the final ODI, a match where Rohit himself contributed a fluent 75 runs and crossed the milestone of 20,000 international runs.
The celebration saw the Man of the Match, centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal, asked to cut the cake. After feeding a slice to Virat Kohli—who, despite his notoriously strict diet, indulged in a small bite—Jaiswal turned to offer the second piece to his senior opening partner, Rohit Sharma.
As the camera zoomed in, Rohit politely put up his hands and, with a chuckle, declined the sweet treat. He was distinctly heard saying in Hindi, “Nahi khale, mota ho jaunga wapis,” which translates to, “No, I won’t eat it, I will become fat again.”

The refusal, though amusing, underscores the 38-year-old’s rigorous physical transformation over the past few months. Having faced previous scrutiny over his fitness, Rohit has committed to a strict diet and intensive training regime, reportedly shedding over 10 kilograms to adopt a visibly leaner and sharper physique.
His dedication is seen as a strategic move to maintain peak form as he aims to prolong his career, with the 2027 ODI World Cup reportedly being a key target. His improved physical condition has already reflected positively on the field, with the opener delivering two crucial half-centuries in the series against South Africa.
